Biomedical Engineering Major

The Biomedical Engineering major (also known as Biomedical Systems Engineering) is part of the undergraduate program in Engineering Science at the University of Toronto. The major covers principles of embryonic development and tissue engineering, mathematical modelling in cell and molecular biology, biological and medical imaging, omic technologies, physiological control systems, biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering, and computational biology.

Admission requirements

Applicants must be Engineering Science program students at U of T.

Prospective students must first apply to the Engineering Science program (see steps below).

Required

  1. Apply to the Engineering Science program. Select the application option that matches your academic history.
  2. Declare the Biomedical Engineering major. Students admitted to Engineering Science can add the Biomedical Engineering major to their program planner through Degree Explorer.

Program pathways

In addition to compulsory courses, Biomedical Engineering major students may choose technical electives from four focus areas, which include A) Systems and Synthetic Biology, B) Regenerative Medicine and Biomaterials, C) Neuro Sensory and Rehab Engineering, and D) Sensors, Nano/Microsystems and Instrumentation.
