Five core BME faculty members receive NSERC support for discovery research and research infrastructure

Five core faculty members at the University of Toronto's Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BME) have received funding through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada's (NSERC) latest Discovery Research Program competition, announced as part of a federal investment of more than $630 million in Canadian research. The national funding announcement was made on July 7 by the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry, and supports researchers across Canada working to advance fundamental discovery and innovation.

Professor Elaine Biddiss Awarded Kids Brain Health Network Funding to Advance Innovative Supports for Children and Youth with Neurodisabilities 

Professor Elaine Biddiss, Associate Professor at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Senior Scientist at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, is among the project leads for one of 14 initiatives receiving national funding from Kids Brain Health to improve outcomes for children and youth with neurodisabilities and their families across Canada.

Nine BME affiliated Professors awarded NSERC Discovery Grants

The Discovery Grant program supports researchers exploring new frontiers to address critical challenges, including environmental protection, food security, and sustainable construction in cold climates. It seeks to sustain a diverse and high-quality research ecosystem in the natural sciences and engineering at Canadian universities, foster excellence, and create an engaging environment for research training.
